Don's House in the Mountains

Don's House in the Mountains

After over 20 years, Don Veazie has finally made it as a writer, going from an AP English teacher to richer and more famous than he ever could have imagined. In the process his wife Lois, feeling alienated and resentful of her husband’s success, has filed for divorce, forcing to Don to move to a house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. With time alone to reflect, he’s able to see how his new wealth and fame has affected his life in ways he never expected. His daughter D’Arcy has used his popularity to become a successful influencer herself; his friends and family now defer to him whenever he walks in the room; and something as simple as posting a video on social media of a moose in his backyard becomes a viral internet sensation. Maybe the biggest of these is his new house, which, the longer he lives there, the more he gets the sense that it might have magical powers. But that can’t be right, a house doesn’t have magical powers, does it?

The third book in The Author Cycle after A Girl and a Gun and Holtman Arms, Don’s House in the Mountains is a further exploration of fame and success in the 21st century, as Don seemingly gets everything he’s always dreamed of, but potentially loses a lot more in the process. It also looks at different generations in America, in particular Gen X through Don who was born in 1970.
